The Grocery Delivery Committee will continue providing financial assistance to the Cancer Resource Center (CRC) clients who would benefit from a free grocery delivery. We had two successful deliveries over this past winter break. At this time, we will be able to serve 10 more individuals or a few families (i.e. 3 families of 3 + 1 individual). We plan to collaborate with other organizations on campus this semester so that we can obtain more funding for the program and be able to assist more people financially. In addition, the CRC relayed that some clients would benefit from technical assistance when using Instacart. The Grocery Delivery Committee is committed to working with the CRC on this effort.
Modification in Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) Commitee
Mission
The Modification in Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) Equation is used to estimate glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), which is utilized to assess kidney function in patients. Low eGFR levels indicate that your kidneys are not functioning normally. However, the use of this equation has been controversial due to the race correction factor that inflates eGFR levels for black patient populations, which can possibly delay diagnoses/treatment for Chronic Kidney Disease. The MDRD Committee will be focused on outreach efforts to medical centers to move away from using the MDRD equation to assess patients and awareness campaigns to further highlight this issue in medicine.
